Abstract
IHS (intensity, hue, and saturation) transformation is one of the most commonly used fusion algorithm in remote sensing community. The traditional IHS method is to replace intensity component I0 with a new intensity component Inew of high-resolution images in IHS color space. In this paper, a study on IHS fusion indicates that the color distortion can´t be avoided in this method. An improved IHS (IIHS) fusion method, which rectifying the replaced intensity component by using proper weight coefficients of Inew and I0, is proposed to reduce the color distortion. As an example, IIHS algorithm is applied to fuse images of SPOT and Landsat TM. Experiment results prove that it is a practical and effective method.
