Abstract :
We discuss the performance of recording codes with several signal processing methods at the reading process for a system based on a sampled servo format. Bit error rates for differential detection and PRML methods with the 4/15 and 4/11 codes are investigated, respectively. The performance of these codes are compared with the (2,7) and (1,7)RLL codes which are designed for a continuous servo format. The simulations indicate that the 4/11 code with PRML method can compete favorably with the (1,7)RLL code with PRML method at a data frequency of 12 Mbps
