  • Abstract
IEC 61850 is the new standard for communications in substations. It provides a set of new features that allow the development of distributed applications based on high-speed peer-to-peer communications. They can be used in different ways for the recording of abnormal system conditions. Cross-triggering of recording between different devices connected to the substation local area network, recording of waveforms using distributed sampled analog values during short circuit faults or recording voltage and frequency profiles using generic object oriented substation event (GOOSE) messages are described in the paper
