Abstract :
The Jubilee Line Extension Project consists of the construction of 16 km of railway, 10 km of which is in tunnel, 11 new stations, a depot, and the upgrading of the existing Jubilee Line between Stanmore and Green Park. The railway extension is to open in September of 1998. This paper describes the design management strategy, the pre-tender conceptual design work and the detailed design as developed by the contractor. It draws attention to the innovative features incorporated in the design, and the care taken to ensure that risk to programme and completion quality arising from the innovation was minimised
