Abstract
This document discusses why the use of an indoor gas insulated substation (GIS) is highly recommended for high wind and high corrosive areas such as the Caribbean Islands. In 1998, Caribbean Utilities Company Ltd. (CUC) signed a long term substation strategic alliance agreement (SSAA) with ABB, Inc. (ABB) to provide turnkey assistance and support on upgrading its transmission and distribution infrastructure. Seven years later, the CUC/ABB alliance is continuing as ABB completes the fourth indoor GIS substation and both CUC and ABB have agreed to renew the SSAA for seven more years
