Abstract
When a power supply system has a relatively low short circuit level, industrial loads such as arc furnaces, or converters for large motor drives, can cause voltage disturbances which may adversely affect other consumers. A description is presented of the development of a very simple static Vr compensator (SVC) of low rating designed for reducing such disturbances caused by loads up to about 10 MVA. A step down transformer is required and the small site area and simple design are ideally suited to industrial applications. The design of the SVC is described in detail
