Abstract
The telecommunications industry and services in Japan have taken a swift upturn since the enactment of the new telecommunications business law in 1985. ISDN promotion in Japan under this environment is discussed. ISDN is a key aspect of the infrastructure for the information-driven society of the next decade. Dissemination conditions for open system interconnection/ISDN in Japan are discussed, and the contributions of the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) in developing national standards are summarized. Interconnectability and interoperability issues in ISDN-related subjects are described, and ISDN applications are outlined
