Abstract
Deregulation has changed the electric industry. Proper system expansion is necessary to insure adequate reliability as well as to maximize social welfare. This paper presents a holistic transmission planning approach to evaluate the reliability and economic impact as well as optimize social welfare under the competitive energy market. Losses, production cost, and emission is considered in market simulations to assess the overall performance of transmission expansion projects. A design modification to transmission towers to minimize electro magnetic field is also discussed
