Abstract :
Summary form only given. Electric utilities are on a never ending quest to attain higher levels of performance for increasingly lower costs. Often times this leads to project requests that far exceed budget and resource constraints. Many utilities have started to manage this problem through well-defined project evaluation and selection processes, and often start with a focus on reliability spending. This talk presents recent efforts by TXU to improve project identification and selection with regards to distribution system reliability. At TXU, all reliability-related spending decisions are make by the same group, allowing a wide variety of reliability improvement projects to be compared so that the most benefit can be achieved at the lowest cost (including CAPEX and OPEX projects). Specific topics that was discussed include data issues, benefit quantification, and project ranking
