Abstract
The rapid growth in mobile data traffic has posed great challenges for mobile operators; and mobile operators are looking for more cost effective solutions to deliver mobile data without compromising user experience. 3GPP has proposed several methods to selectively offload certain mobile data to alternative path without going through Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network to achieve CAPEX savings. We have evaluated these methods, and proposed an optimized local breakout solution at base station (i.e., eNB) called Zibo which allows operators to offload undesirable mobile traffic as early as possible.
