Abstract :
In this paper, a short-term generation scheduling approach for cascaded hydrothermal systems using self-organizing hierarchical particle swarm optimization with time varying acceleration coefficients (SPSO-TVAC) is proposed. The thermal operating cost minimization with satisfying the hydraulic and thermal generation constraints is achieved. Multi-period scheduling and non-convex operating cost function of thermal units are considered. Test results indicate that the proposed hydrothermal scheduling approach based on SPSO-TVAC provides a lower total cost comparing to inertia weight approach particle swarm optimization (IWAPSO) and the existing optimization techniques.
