Abstract
We describe a high-level error control mechanism that can be used for real-time multimedia transport protocols. The majority of conventional multimedia transport protocols use only a basic error recovery mechanism such as selective retransmission or go-back-N. They do not consider integrated multimedia data. The designed error control mechanism uses a low-level error recovery mechanism as its basic error recovery procedure. Furthermore, it also supports the new high-level error recovery mechanism through the integration of each media into a multimedia service. The basic transmission method, the low-level error recovery mechanism, and the the characteristics of the online multimedia transport protocol are described
