Abstract
Cell loss is an important performance metric in proposed asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. The cell loss probability can be predicted for a single ATM queue given complex traffic models using several approaches. The output process of ATM queues on the edge of the network is approximated to predict the cell loss probability of tandem ATM queues. Several different representations of the output process are proposed and evaluated for accuracy and computational efficiency
