            Abstract :
A novel contactless sensor has been developed to detect defects in sheet strips arising from holes, tears, etc. It uses a fluorescent plastic optical fiber and a large luminescent source. A physical model has been developed and computer simulations have been performed in order to analyze the influence of all system parameters. Numerous experimental results obtained with a doped polystyrene fiber are presented. Good agreement is observed between them and the results of theoretical model
