Abstract :
This paper illustrates the effect of internet traffic and bridge positioning on the behavioral characteristics of Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB) subnetworks. We show that positioning of the bridges in the subnetwork determines the performance of the DQDB subnetworks, and the performance of the hierarchical communication system as a whole. Bridges are shown to have minimum medium access delay among all the stations in the subnetwork, decreasing with an increase in the internet traffic
