Abstract :
The understanding of what is a high-technology industry is discussed, reviewing the OECD indicator Technology Intensity´s meaning. It measures R&D over GVA, not the industry technology dependence. An alternative indicator, the Technology Index, which measures the technology use value contribution to build the firm´s value added, is described. It is argued that this indicator provides a better evaluation of what is a technology-driven organization.
