Abstract :
The concept of single carrier transmission with frequency domain equalization (SC/FDE) represents one of the most powerful strategies for next generation wireless communication systems. One of the main advantages of this concept, which makes use of a so called cyclic prefix (CP), is its powerful and low complexity equalization procedure in frequency domain. Topic of this paper is it to investigate the capabilities of the so called unique word (UW) for linear equalizer structures in an SC/FDE System. The concept of UW represents a specific form of cyclic prefix and was originally developed to enable non linear equalization as decision feedback equalization but was not investigated for linear structures. Therefore mathematical derivations are given in this paper to show of how to make use of the knowledge of the UW. Finally system simulations show the possible performance improvements.
