  • Abstract
    The proof-of-concept interoperability testing for the IEC 61850 design of Hydro One Dual Element Spot Network (DESN) substation is presented in this paper. The necessity to conduct proof-of-concept interoperability testing is addressed and discussed. An example is given to demonstrate how proof-of-concept interoperability testing is applied to the DESN substation automation system prior to full scope integration and field deployment, the lessons learnt and the experience gained in deploying the IEC 61850 based substation automation systems.
