Abstract
Venture capital is a form of "private risk capital". The United States pioneered the modern venture capital industry and is still the world\´s dominant venture investor with over $250 billion under active management. The American lead in developing many new technologies is due precisely to the investments in start-ups and early stage enterprises. This paper explores the structure of the US venture capital industry and its implication for other economies.
