Abstract :
Potential roles of knowledge-based systems in selecting techniques for communication-system modeling are discussed. An overview of several modeling issues and techniques are given, with attention to their applicability and potential restrictions with various channel-distortion models. The facility for integrated systems testing at the author´s lab is used as a case study to illustrate expert system guidance in selecting specific simulation techniques that fit a set of user constraints, such as run-time efficiency and results accuracy. Potential extensions of knowledge-based systems in the regime of communications modeling are suggested.<>
