Abstract :
This presentation includes technical aspects of modeling distributed generation (DG) to study the impact of DG when integrated into a typical distribution system. Computer models are developed that include DG of different technologies. Control systems are also simulated and implemented. Distribution system models connect power equipment to represent actual configurations. Models are developed using electro-magnetic transient type programs such as the Alternative Transient Program (ATP) and MATLAB (demonstrated in this presentation). Test cases that demonstrate and visualize the impact of DG on distribution systems are presented. They include behavior of DG for different fault conditions and the interactions with power equipment. An example of a system model representing a wind energy system interconnected to a typical distribution system has been selected for this presentation.
