Abstract
The performance of database systems is crucial in design application software. The manipulation of complex objects can no longer be handled efficiently by relational database technology. As a result, there has been a growing interest in object-oriented database systems (OODB). However, the benchmarks available to measure such systems are just emerging. The paper presents a set of benchmarks based on the geometric and topological representation schema of STEP (the standard for the exchange of product model data). Its implementation on a particular object-oriented database system, ONTOS, is discussed. A study into adapting the benchmarks to other OODBs and non OODBs is also presented
