Abstract :
The method presented in this paper simulates a Root-Mean-Square circuit behavior to increase the efficiency of the overcurrent protection circuitry in power devices. The method proves to be simple and free of calibration, with reduced silicon versus true Root-Mean-Square circuits. A circuit was built and tested with a high duty-cycle actuator. The handling of peak and average currents qualified this circuit as an excellent solution for most applications.
