Abstract
This paper discusses the fundamental principles of the active and reactive power control for three-level VSC (voltage source converter) based HVDC system. The three-level converter structure is employed to enhance the transmission capacity of the VSC-HVDC system. With the proposed three-level VSC-HVDC system, the corresponding control strategy is presented. Based on this control strategy, appropriate controllers utilizing PI controllers are designed to control the active and reactive power at each end station. Digital simulation is done to verify the validity of the proposed control strategy and controllers.
