Abstract
The UK Government has offered support and encouragement for the development of combined heat and power (CHP) over many years. In 1996, the Government published a UK strategy for CHP. This document summarised the development of CHP in the UK, the barriers to further progress and the opportunities for the future. A copy of the strategy, with revised market data, is appended to this colloquium paper
