Abstract :
Traditional P2P application has the problems like large expense of control message and Head-Of-Line (HOL) blocking when using TCP as transport protocol. With the multi-streaming characteristic that different data can be distinguished logically, SCTP can avoid these problems. However in SCTP initial association establishment phase, only fixed number of streams are created, and the streams amount can´t be modified dynamically, which may cause unnecessary waiting time on the occasion of high concurrent transmission. This paper proposes a novel SCTP extension called Dynamic Streaming SCTP (DS-SCTP) as the transport protocol of P2P applications. DS-SCTP supports dynamically adding new streams to an established association. We implement the experiments in the actual network environment. The results indicate that DS-SCTP can improve the transmission performance efficiently and make the design of application more simply.
