Abstract
The time-cost behaviour of a program depends not only on its resource requirements (e.g. processor time), but also on its execution environment. In this paper, we developed a model of the effect of the execution environment on the time-cost behaviour of a parallel program in a multiprocessor system, incorporating the effects of blocking. We show that one can analytically relate a distributed program´s time-cost to its execution environment. A direct benefit of this work is to allow us to analyse and meet the real-time requirements of a program and to maximally utilize the system´s resources
