Abstract :
A Low power gm-boosted differential Colpitts voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using current-reused technique is presented. With the proposed gm-boosted and current-reused technique, the power consumption of the VCO is decreased. In addition, the superior cyclostationary noise property of the Colpitts VCO can be used to improve the phase noise. The proposed VCO is implemented in 0.18 μm CMOS 1P6M process. The core VCO only dissipates 1.05 mW with 1V supply. At 5.255 GHz, the measurements show -117.62 dBc/Hz phase noise at 1 MHz offset.
