Abstract
With the rapid development of microcomputer the vehicle control tends to integrated control to replace the single type control used in cars now available on the market. Powertrain control, which unifies engine control and transmission control, is supposed to realize more sophisticated control. To realize this control the recognition of driving environment becomes very important. In this study the problem of recognizing vehicle driving environments is discussed with the information obtained from some sensors attached to the vehicle available on the market
