Abstract :
A modified carrier phase estimation algorithm based on Viterbi-Viterbi phase estimation method is proposed for high-level square QAM-based optical coherent systems. All of the received symbols are used to estimate the carrier phase in order to enhance the tolerance of laser phase noise. Compared to the previous algorithms, the computation complexity of the proposed algorithm is lower and does not depend on the modulation levels. The simulation results show that 1 dB SNR penalty is induced with the linewidths of 1, and 0.3 MHz per laser for square 16-and 64-QAM, respectively.
