Abstract :
This paper presents the size reduction of rectangular microstrip patch antenna. This antenna has been designed on substrate epsivr= 4.3, thickness 1.53 mm and simulated using FDTD code. The simple patch antenna with dimension 36.08 mm x 29.6 mm has been designed with center frequency of 2.33 GHz. In this patch, the slot of dimension 10 mm x 5 mm, 10 mm x 12 mm , and 10 mm x 15 mm has been created step by step to increase the length of current path along the lambda/2 length of the patch. According to the dimension of the slot, the resonant frequency of the patch is shifted towards lower side at 1.91 GHz, 1.49 GHz and 1.19 GHz respectively in comparison to simple resonant frequency 2.33 GHz. This reveals thee reduction in size of antenna. The maximum size reduction of slot dimension 10 mm x 15 mm has been achieved around 50 % in comparison to the simple patch antenna.
