Abstract
One of the most emergent services in mobile data communication is Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC). The idea of this service has been used since the advent of the telegraph and it is nowadays employed to provide a rapid and efficient solution to connect many users simultaneously. In the past, most implementations were made in circuit-switching networks, which provided limited features for PoC. The advent of new packet-switching networks, such as CDMA 1xRTT mobile systems, offered new possibilities to PoC deployment. Some of the most important features of PoC over a CDMA mobile network are Voice-Over-IP (VOIP) calls and a service similar to instant message. Since CDMA 1xRTT networks do not have QoS capabilities, a lot of challenges are presented for the implementation of this service. This paper reports an improved solution to the mobile phone registration procedure in a PoC platform. The advantages of using this procedure are described in detail, in light of a practical implementation in Brazil.
