Abstract
Charge accumulation in polar dielectrics irradiated with charged particles is accompanied by formation of the slow component of the persistent polarization P s which escapes registration by routine measurements of the permittivity ∈. Some ceramics and glasses with ∈<10 feature extremely high P s on the order of 10-7 C/cm2. The present analysis is based on a two-layer dielectric with a constant conductivity of the irradiated region while P s is described by the Debye model. The appearance of the P s substantially affects the build-up rate of the space charge in a dielectric
