Abstract
One of the UK Government´s key commitments is to develop an integrated transport policy and its intention is to produce a White paper during 1998. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how intelligent transport systems (ITS) might contribute to delivering that policy and identify what actions are required if we are to fully exploit its potential. The paper covers the following areas: background to the current policy position; contribution of ITS to Government policy aims; potential benefits of ITS facilities; and national action plan.
