Abstract :
It is noted that increasing the speed of a paper machine has a definite effect on the drive system requirements. Determining the requirements on the drive system by taking data of the existing paper machine is explored. Calculations using the data are presented along with the analysis of the results. Consideration is given to the horsepower (HP) requirements, motor ratings and power unit ratings with respect to HP, voltage, field ratings, and overload rating. Forms for gathering data are included with example calculations. Other elements of the drive system are discussed relative to the paper machine speed-up.<>
