Standards for road transport and traffic telematics-a progress report

This paper provides a general progress report on the preparation of standards for road traffic and transport telematics (RTTT). It starts with a general discussion on standards and the particular requirements of RTTT. Following this the progress on standardisation in the various bodies is described, in particular that of CEN/TC 278 which is coordinating the European standardisation activities. It concludes by comparing the expectation for standardisation with the achievements and identifies some of the important issues.
