Abstract
This paper describes optimum design equations for a purely inductive energy storage and transfer circuit based on the sequential switching of mutually coupled inductors. These types of circuits can multiply current into inductive loads and deliver constant current into resistive loads (modulators) at high efficiency. Previously design routines were based on time consuming computer runs. The recently derived design equations allow for a simplified design using an interactive computer spread sheet. The design equations were used to derive optimum switching voltages, current multiplication and switching times of a previously tested circuit. This paper also describes how the design equations can be used to modify a modulator circuit (constant current into a resistive load) to drive inductive loads at high efficiency by simply changing switch voltages.
