Abstract
PMD is one of the main factors to signal distortion in high bit rate optical fiber communication systems. A novel PMD compensation scheme based on FPGA using DPSO algorithm is proposed. We experimentally demonstrate stable polarization compensation for 43Gbit/s RZ-DQPSK transmission over 1200km with endless polarization scrambling. The PMD compensation shows excellent performance for signals in case of fast changing SOP and jumping DGD in long-haul link. Average BER of 10-6 is achieved without FEC. High-speed components are not required, which means that the proposed scheme is applicable to the higher speed transmission system.
