Abstract :
The DiffServ (differentiated services) architecture has recently become the preferred service model for addressing QoS issues in IP networks due to its simplicity and scalability. In the DiffServ domain, the core routers use RIO algorithm, which performs different packet dropping schemes when congestion occurs. But the RIO algorithm cannot stabilize the queue size and therefore, leads to unpredictable queuing delay and jitter. Furthermore, RIO has the "bandwidth skew" problem. We developed a new AQM (active queue management) algorithm for DiffServ networks named MBIO (modified BLUE with IN and OUT). MBIO, which runs two different modified-BLUE algorithms for IN and OUT packets, was expected to stabilize the queue size and mitigate the "bandwidth skew" problem. The simulation results indicate that compared with RIO, MBIO performs better in stabilizing the queue size and mitigating the "bandwidth skew" problem
