  • Abstract
A novel cascade compulsator (C P A) which can provide a practical and compact high pulsed power source has been proposed and investigated. The cascade CPA system consists of two individual CPAs which are coupled with each other mechanically and electrically. By controlling the degree of the electrical feedback coupling, a stable and repeated pulsed power output with high current gain and power gain can be achieved in compact system and without any grid power. It is very suitable for mobile high power laser systems and other repeated pulsed loads. A series of experiments have been completed on a model to demonstrate the feasibility of the system. The experimental results shown that cascade CPA can be self-excited without grid by the remanence in CPA and the positive feedback effects of the system. The current gain was measured as high as 101_104 and the power gain of 104 was reached.
