Abstract
This paper deals with an original use of the 2D harmonic multipolar decomposition of the magnetic stray field of an electrical motor. Based on a certain number of stray field measurements, the equivalent magnetic source is identified and it is separated into elementary rotating or pulsating sources. Due to this decomposition, a powerful fault diagnostic tool is obtained based on both frequency and multipolar analysis of the magnetic field. The method is illustrated on a faulty permanent magnet motor with a degaussed magnet
