Abstract :
The integration of WiMAX and Mobile IPV6 (MIPV6) protocols in wireless network technology has drawn intensive research interests today. WiMAX is faster with sufficient bandwidth. However, a key issue to be resolved while making a large amount of information transmission is how to reduce the system load and hence avoid interruptions. In order to achieve fast handover, HMIPV6 uses a Mobility Anchor Point (MAP) as the Local HA to regionalize the handover operations; it thus reduces the number of Binding Update (BU) information transmission of MIPV6 among HA, CN and MN. However, the BU procedure of HMIPV6 is time consuming and it often causes packet losses and transmission delays. This paper proposes VMAP-C (VMAP with Caching) to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of handover. In this scheme, VMAP is used to improve the efficiency of signal transmission. Also, we utilize caching to replace the existing DAD mechanism. A number of simulations with NS-2 simulator were performed. The final results indicate that VMAP-C can lower the handover delays as compared to using VMAP alone. Also, the proposed VMAP-C can shorten the jitters of inter-packets, improve the throughput of the systems and thereby maintain the stable quality of services.
