Abstract
A quasi-Einzel type electron gun has been designed for color projection CRTs (cathode ray tubes). Due to the reduced magnification factor and space charge effect, plus a strong prefocusing BFR, this gun had a 35% improved low-current (100- mu A) spot and 25% improved high-current (5-mA) spot compared to the conventional Hi-UPF projection gun. This gun uses conventional oxide cathode and conventional electron gun manufacturing technology. This will reduce the production cost and minimize many of the long-term performance uncertainties of a newly developed gun. Although this gun was developed as a monochrome projection gun, the authors believe that through a minor reoptimization this design can be used for the color inline gun system.<>
