Abstract
Transmission calculations through liquid crystal cells utilizing the Mueller 4*4 matrix method have recently been made. This method was extended to the optically retarded liquid crystal cell by including the 4*4 matrix for the retardation film in the calculation. By doing so, the transmission of the cell is found and the CIE color coordinates are calculated by utilizing the weighted ordinate method. The authors describe these methods, and show some sample calculations for several types of liquid crystal devices.<>
