Abstract
In this paper, a new technique is described to determine the optimal signal/ground configuration of a backplane connector which produces minimal crosstalk. The technique is based on the observation that the crosstalk to a certain pin is mainly caused by the surrounding pins. The technique guarantees the optimal configuration, does not suffer from local minima, and is applicable to general IC packages
