Abstract

There are several types of large overhead display products commonly used in the industrial setting. These include large annunciator signs, mechanical flip-dot signs, and light-emitting diode (LED) marquees. All three classifications are driven electrically to provide information to users over viewing distances in excess of about 25 feet. Information useful to those individuals who are trying to establish standards and selection criteria for overhead electronic signs in industrial plants is provided. The discussion includes comparisons to other large display technologies, application heuristics, and cost-benefit information.<>
