Abstract :
This paper discusses the technical aspects of LED (light emitting diode) traffic lights and provides estimates on expected savings if all the traffic signal lights in London are to be replaced by LEDs. The paper also gives details of a pilot test site which is to be setup in London in the first quarter of 1998 in order to evaluate the performance of LED traffic lights.
