Abstract :
Summary form only given. The argument presented here proposes that one aspect of the complexity of innovation relates to the multidimensional nature of the construct. Specifically, when referring to the adoption of a given innovation or set of innovations, underspecification of the innovation(s) being studied becomes problematic in that there may be little or no comparison of findings across studies. The result may be not only a lack of understanding about the adoption of innovation but differing degrees of misunderstanding of the adoption of innovation. This paper suggests the use of multidimensional categorization schemes provides greater understanding about organizational precursors to the adoption of innovation
