Abstract
Advanced receiver structures that incorporate multiuser detection principles have the potential of substantially increasing the performance of DS-CDMA systems and alleviating the near-far problem, by compensating for multiple access interference. In multipath channels, performance can be further improved by incorporating diversity techniques that mitigate the effects of fading. This paper studies via a simulation approach the benefits of combining dual antenna diversity with DS-CDMA multiuser detection. Polarization as well as spatial diversity are examined as potential candidates for diversity reception at the base station
