Abstract :
Research into semi-autonomous vehicles for operation in ´convoys´ at ultra-short headways leads to a requirement for fast-response electrical drives. The switched reluctance drive possesses a number of attractive features for this application. Techniques for computer modeling of the machine are discussed and data are identified for the modeling process. Using the example of a convoy ´closing up´ operation, simulated results are obtained for a transient position-control condition. These are discussed with reference to convoy control requirements
